Came across a great chart in an old Runner's World. It helps determine what your fall or winter running outlook will be, based on your summer training. Did you realize that if you're running a fall marathon in early October -- you only have about 17 weeks to go?!
If you run: 0-10 miles/week this summer....
you can expect: 5k or 10k in fall; fast 5k or 10k in winter
10-20 miles/week
fast 5k/finish 10k in fall; PR in 5k/10k in winter
20-30 miles/week
10k or half- finish marathon late fall
10k or half- finish marathon late fall
30-40 miles/week
5k, 10k half or late fall marathon; improve any distance this winter
5k, 10k half or late fall marathon; improve any distance this winter
