It can be so challenging to get motivated in the winter months. Rather than running a local 5K or traveling far to get a race in, we decided to check
They were leading a group run in Hoboken -- our old stomping grounds and the town where both my wife and I were living, when we met. The 5 miler starts and finishes at the Pilsner Haus.
The run was a leisurely run, with about 6-7 stops to chat about the history of the town. The winding course around the mile square included of course Frank Sinatra and his star on the sidewalk on Monroe Street, stops at Stevens Tech-the highest point of Hoboken, the Lackawana train terminal, as well as more obscure landmarks like the former home of Elysian Baseball fields and the proposed location of a bridge from Hoboken to NYC in the 1800's; which would have changed the course of traffic in town.
It was a great way to get outside and run -- especially on a dreary, rainy day that we might not otherwise be motivated to go out and run. I would highly recommend the tour and the group -- and planning to run in NYC and other locations with City Running Tours.
Hey Jim, that sounds like it was a lot of fun! Great idea to combine the daily run with a family event, sure beats the grind on the treadmill (on a rainy day)...Ken
