The Impact of the iPod on running

Has there been a technological advance as great as the iPod to impact running?

While I try to keep this blog about running -- it seems fitting and appropriate to take a moment to pay tribute to a man who's persistence and technology has helped revolutionize our sport of running.

If you are a slave to your music, as a lot of us are you might not want to go for a run without your iPod or you might use your iPhone or iTouch to download a running app to help log your miles, provide you voice-over inspiration during your run or to even map your run through its GPS.

If you think about how you trained during HS track or cross country - you would have lug around one of these heavy walkmans and hope your tape didn't get eaten from all the shaking. Or figure out a way to get those earphone/radio jobs to stay on your head.

The technology and genius of Steve Jobs gave us more choices as runners and the freedom to throw a pair of headphones on, clip on your iPod shuffle and zone out on the treadmill. Or enable us to download training apps to keep us motivated to keep at our training goal.
