New Years Resolutions - Round 2

Need a second start?
Another chance?
Do-Over?

Did your New Year's Resolution to "start running more" not really pan out in January? February 1st (the 'unofficial restart' to resolutions) has been slammed with treacherous winter weather - prohibiting a lot of these 'best of intentions'.

I've been fortunate enough to get outside to put some miles in, while I attempt to repair (or replace) my current treadmill. I was even able to get out over the weekend - both Sat & Sun - to have this weather wreck havoc on my running!

Although I had only gotten a few days back in to my schedule, I found myself with a sudden awareness on my caloric intake. Oddly enough, after my run this weekend, I felt the impulse to splurge for a coffee drink. Not the best post-run beverage, but wanted to reward myself for running outside in the 20 degree weather.

Then I got to thinking...
is one of those coffee drinks really any better than having a beer or a glass of wine? So I compared two coffee drinks and two beers:

Now, I don't claim to be an expert nutritionist, but International Delight had only 45 calories compared with 116 and 125 for each beer (Guiness, of course being the higher).
But the frappuccino drink had 170 calories PLUS 26g of Sugar!

I wouldn't recommend any of these as 'post-run' drinks, but if you're going to indulge then remember that if  you can't get out to run these calories away, that 30 minutes of shoveling snow will burn 300 calories!
